Publications** of the Department of Health are required by law to be deposited with State and National libraries. See Premier's Circular 'Requirements for Western Australian Government Publications and LIbrary Collections' 2021/14
Where a publication is produced by the Department of Health, two (2) copies also need to deposited with the Department of Health Corporate Library.
Publications must also be stored in accordance to the Department of Health's recordkeeping procedures. For further information please contact Record Services (internal access only).
**A publication is any work that has been made available to the public, whether freely or for sale. It includes books, serials, maps, DVDs, CDs, posters and postcards, newspapers and sheet music, video recordings such as films and short films, audio recordings such as music and audio books, and electronic data.
Legal deposit is a statutory provision requiring publishers to deposit copies of their publications in a nominated collecting institute. The State Library of Western Australia is the legal deposit library for Western Australian publications & the deposit of material is the responsibility of the publisher of that material. Publications need to be deposited with the State Library within 30 days of publication.
Two (2) copies of publications produced for the public in print format only (i.e. where there is no digital version) should be deposited with the State Library. Publications should be sent to:

For publications that are made available to the public in both print and digital editions, agencies are required to forward one copy of the printed version to the above address; and deposit a digital version via the National edeposit (NED) portal.
Please don't print out digital-only publications.

Where a publication is made available to the public in digital format only, agencies are to deposit via the National edeposit (NED) portal. Digital copies deposited with the State Library should be in archival standard format.
If sending documents for public consultation and display, please send them in addition to the copies required under Legal Deposit.

Legal Deposit is a requirement under the Copyright Act 1968 for publishers and self publishing authors to deposit a copy of any print work published in Australia with the National Library and when applicable, the deposit libraries in your home state. Whilst government publications are not covered by the Copyright Act 1968, the National Library actively collects them by way of various government administrative directives.
